Thanks King of Ooo!

Since King of Ooo is probably too busy plotting his coup and overthrowing PB to post (just kidding)…

Here are some of my favorite BG’s I got to design for the two-part episode called “Lemonhope”. After reviewing the animatic and storyboards for this one, I immediately wondered what the fans and viewers were going to think…especially the ending. Tom Herpich and Steve Wolfhard are one of my favorite storyboard teams on the show, and they always try to push the stories beyond what’s expected of Adventure Time. Even with side characters. That’s what makes Adventure Time special and what keeps the stories fresh.

On the design side, I wanted to give the story the proper respect and I tried to put extra love into the BG designs. Seeing the BG painters’ final pass at the color palettes made the scenes even better. I dare say this episode is one of the most lush and beautifully rendered episodes that we’ve put out.

On a side note…this was one of the first episodes I worked on while my baby boy was only a few weeks old, and I drew—and even painted a few!— these scenes while he was sleeping in his crib just a few feet away. Now he’s almost 7 months old. Time sure flies by…

And of course, the usual roll call:

art director - Nick Jennings

BG painters - Sandra Calleros, Ron Russell, and Teri Shikasho

and of course…

BG designers - Derek Hunter & your’s truly.

One of my best friends has a new post on his blog. It’s a sneak peek at what’s to come.

I remember seeing the rough animatic a long while ago and it was awesome then. Seeing the final version was amazing. I remember meeting the band and having drinks with them in Portland way back in 2008 while Chris and I were working at Laika. Good music and beer, great times with great company.

Keep checking back at Chris’ blog to see the official video in about a week’s time.

Nice work Chris and all the bad ass artists that worked on it.

from Jesse:

New episode of Adventure Time on Monday featuring some highly anticipated subject matter, according to the message boards I check. This is a scene that was cut from the episode. Wish it could have been 30 seconds longer!
I guess I’m sort of nervous about how people will react to it, but oh well maybe I feel nervous every time an episode I work on airs. This is my second to last episode working with Ako Castuera.
Also, if you are a fan of the show Girls, you’ll be excited to know that Lena Dunham voices one of the main characters in this episode. So look forward to that. Word.

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted some new Adventure Time BGs, so here’s some of my favorites that I got to design from “Root Beer Guy”, “Blade Of Grass”, and “Rattle Balls”.

As always, the BG paint team are: Sandra Calleros, Ron Russell, and Terri Shikasho. And Art Director Nick Jennings leading the way.

My buddy John sent this to me. I have no clue who did this, but it’s rad! Nice job on this, whoever you are! I’d pay to play an Adventure Time game that looked like this.

That is mighty impressive! Make me one too!
